RUEBIN GELEYNSE
COLT STARTING

Since the age of six, horses have been a part of Reuben's life. He learned most things about horses through trial and error while going up on his family's farm in eastern Ontario. At the age of 17 Reuben left home and traveled across North America pursuing a career as a professional bull rider. After 10 years, several championships and 3 world championship qualifications Reuben retired from the sport and returned to his first love, horses.

Reuben now owns and operates, with his wife Karina and their two children, Saddle Ridge Stable, a horse training facility located in Mountain, ON. Reuben says when he is working with a horse, his number one priority is "helping the horse get his mind right so he can be soft and resistance free from the tip of
his ears to the soles of his feet. I want to help him understand how to appropriately deal with pressure in all it's various forms. This will be the foundation that all his training will be built on. It is crucial that the horse is not rushed through this stage", says Geleynse. "There are no deadlines. Getting a horse soft and resistance free can take days, weeks, even months depending on the horse. However, the payoff is worth it. The result is a relaxed, confident, thinking, responsive and happy horse. If this stage is done thoroughly enough then the first saddling and ride is usually uneventful and is a pleasant experience for the horse. This approach is continued and built upon for the remainder of a horse's training."

Reuben's patience and his natural ability to asses and understand what each horse is feeling and thinking has proven to be his strongest asset in starting horses. Many owners and breeders have commented on his gentle but firm approach to training, getting the most out of each horse according to each individuals capabilities. His knack for speaking has also proven valuable in teaching and communicating to people about horses. Geleynse is constantly trying to improve on his methods which are based largely on the methods of the Dorrance brothers, Ray Hunt, and Buck Brannaman.

Reuben starts horses for clients and does his best to help folks with so called problem horses. He has a significant waiting list. For more information on Reuben and the goings-on at Saddle Ridge Stable please visit www.saddleridgestable.com
CINDY ISHOY
DRESSAGE CLINIC

Cindy Ishoy began her riding career in Germany as a teenager after swimming competitively from the ages of 10 to 13. Only a few years later, she was a member of the gold medal winning team and placed fourth individually at the 1971 Pan Am Games in Cali, Columbia. Her Olympic debut was the following year in Munich, when she was only 20 years old. In 1979 she was the first Canadian to win an international dressage Grand Prix, and was second at the 1988 World Cup in the Netherlands aboard her great Hanoverian partner, Dynasty. The pair were also members of Canada's bronze medal winning dressage team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where they placed fourth individually.
Since 2000, Ishoy has been paired with Proton, a 10 year old German bred gelding. At the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Ishoy and Proton were the top Canadian Dressage competitors, placing 31st individually, which helped secure a team placing of ninth overall and move Canada up one place in the international rankings. After winning both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle at the Canadian League World Cup Finals in 2005, Ishoy again represented Canada at the World Cup Finals. She followed this with an impressive 11th place finish in the Grand Prix at the CDI3* Hagen, Germany out of a competitive field of 46 international competitors. After winning a berth to Canada's World Equestrian Games team, Ishoy and Proton traveled with the team to Europe for preparatory training and competition where they scored top ten finishes in both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle at the CDI3* Pompadour in France.
DENA KIRKPATRICK
The worlds hottest, most talked about barrel horse trainer will be at the Can Am Equine Show March 19-20th in London, Ontario. Dena Kirkpatrick (world champion) and leading barrel horse trainer will put on a daily clinic free to all covering the basics of barrel racing. There will also be a full clinic held in the London Western Fairgrounds arena the evening of the 19th and 20th.

HER SUCCESS INCLUDES:
Trainer of the Calgary Stampede and Canadian World Champion "Lady Perks" aka Beauty
Trainer of WPRA /NFR World Champion and A.Q.H.A. Horse of the Year "Sugar Moon express aka "Martha"
BFA World Champion Futurity World Champion
San Antonio Live Stock Show and Rodeo Champion
Elite Futurity World Champion
Believing in a simple, common sense, basic approach to training a barrel horse, her goal is to help each horse be the best he or she can be with as little force as possible and always keeping in mind that each individual is different and will have talents that are unique. Her gift is to find those talents in every horse she touches.

Before patterning on the barrels, a colt should be soft and flexible both directions, be able to move off of leg pressure, give to rein or neck pressure, and be able to tuck his rear and stop. Ideally, you should be able to control his body from "lips to hips". As each horse progresses around the barrels, her goal is for the colts to ultimately do it by themselves with very little help. Preparation and clear teaching methods in the horse's early stages allows me to give my horses that freedom as they mature.

Dena strives for a smooth, one motion turn, with careful attention to the horse's body and foot position as they approach a barrel. Teaching an efficient approach & execution is a very important aspect and one that can mean the difference between winning and losing. If a horse is comfortable in the way he executes his turns, he will naturally accelerate out of a barrel. Her goal is that through the solid fundamentals she teaches, it will ultimately carry each horse to a very successful career with different types of riders at all levels.

Dena loves training! Rewards come every day in the training pen, however small. One of her theories on life is that there will always be someone better than you and someone worse than you, but there should never be someone that tries harder. Work ethic is everything and you get out of your horses exactly what you put in to them. She believes that instilling a solid foundation is the key to the success and longevity of a horse's career… "That is my job as a trainer" states Dena.
